Gold Contract Variety
I like the Tom Roberts painting, "Panning for gold". It shows a gold prospector bent over in a stream holding his pan, and looking for gold. His face worried, it looks like there may not have been any gold in his pan, and he does not know what to say to his wife. His clothes are old in the painting, I don't think he has had much luck in the goldfields.
Lasseters Reef
Lewis Lasseter was born at Bangamy in the Victorian goldfields on the 27th September 1880.
When he was seventeen, Lasseter travelled from Cairns in northern Queensland where he had been working on coastal steamers, to Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.
The maps at that time showed the Macdonnell Ranges at Alice Springs extended west to the west coast of Australia, so Lasseter decided to travel west. following the range to the coast to find work. He soon discovered the maps to be very wrong! The mountains gave way to huge expanses of desert, waterholes were difficult to find, and to feed his horses was extremely difficult.
It was around this time when Lasseter discovered a large gold bearing quartz reef.
He took samples from it and noted its position relative to surrounding landmarks.
He continued on but his horses eventually died and he was on foot and close to death when he was saved by a passing Afghan camel driver.
Lasseter was taken to the base camp of a surveyor named Harding and once he had regained his strength, Lasseter showed Harding his samples and told him of his find.
Harding wanted Lasseter to take him back to the reef but Lasseter refused due to the ordeal he had been through. They agreed to return at a later time.
Three years later Lasseter and Harding returned to the area to relocate the reef.
After considerable time and effort they located the reef. They took bearings to accurately locate its latitude & longitude and collected numerous samples.
It was seventeen years later before Lasseter made another attempt to relocate his reef. During the previous years he had first lived in America for eleven years
It was not until 1930 that Lasseter got the opportunity to once again search for his reef. During the late 20's he wrote numerous times to the Government in Canberra telling them of the discovery he had made in Central Australia.
Lasseter gatherd up a few men and horses and set out for his reef. They also sent a plane out to see if the plane could find the reef but the plane unfortunatley crashed and the pilot was badly wounded. On the way to the reef the men that he had come with were starting to think he was nuts and they left him. So lasseter decided to go back but one of the horses bolted on him and he was now starving to death and the only way out was the 100 mile walk back to the airfield but lasseter got 30 miles and died in a cave alone and sad.

Well my mum is gold because she is the rock of the family the thing that keeps the family unit running without her there our family would not be complete. My mum is also priceless nothing can replace her. My mum to me is gold!. She is special.

I strongly and frimly believe that schools should use laptops in schools because when teachers start to read bookwork sometimes they can barely read it beacause the bookwork is so extremely messy. To add on you can add pictures to your bookwork but when your on the [[Finn McNamara#|computer]] it is alot easier to copy and paste images onto your document. Futhermore while your doing your [[Finn McNamara#|work]] you can listen to music from your ipod or your [[Finn McNamara#|Usb stick]]. C'mon people lets get it real and use our computers in class.
I totally disagree with the idea of having computers in our classrooms. Initally all children should learn how to write with their hands just not always [[Finn McNamara#|typing]] on a computer. To add on when your doing bookwork you can be creative and draw in it. Futhermore bringing your laptop to school can be a huge risk you could lose it, damage it or even break it and that laptop may be your mum or dads so you will be in big trouble if you lose it. I firmly believe laptops should not be in schools for the reasons i have just listed.

Under the flag of the Victorian Republic. These men stood united against 2 regiments (500 men) of the english army. These two regiments went under the names of the 12th foot east sullfock regiment and the 40th foot second Somersethire regiment. A leader of the miners was badly wounded and had to go into hiding.
In the end miners got what they wanted and didn't have to pay as much for a gold license.

Day 1 Monday: Geez it was a tough day on the goldfields today. I not really sure that i want to go back to my old life being a blacksmith or i should stay here and see if i strike it rich. if i do strike it rich i will be stop working and live a very happy life not working and doing what i want.
Day 2 Tuesday: I saw one of my friends find a nugget he started dancing around and he was really happy im really jealous but i am also glad for him though, i hope nobody steals his nugget. Yesterday i went out and bought myself some new tools because old ones were getting a bit blunt and rusty.
I havent struck it rich yet but with these new tools i think i am in with a big fat cance.
Day 3 Wednesday: Yay thank goodness i finally found a gold nuggett praise the lord. The big new tools really helped i was banging away at this rock and it finally split open and i found a massive nuggett, I am extremely happy i caan't wait to go into retirement, it all sounds to good to be true but i already pinched myself and i aint dreaming its the real deal Yay im goanna be living it large.
